Who Is Black Cat Enterprises (BCE)?
- Black Cat Enterprises is an Illinois
based sole propriotorship, formally founded in August 2005, by John A. Shachter: the company's current President & CEO.
Plans
are underway to formally incorporate the company by the end of the 2006 calendar year.
Where in Illinois is BCE located?
The World Headquarters
of Black Cat Enterprises currently resides in a spare bedroom in the owner's home, here in Elgin, Illinois. Additionally,
BCE rents space at a local self-storage for large items that the company is selling. Lastly, BCE maintains a POB for all
mail corrispondence.
Plans are in the process of looking for an office/store front to move our opperations into: as
we are out of space under our current arrangement. We should be at the new address somewhere between Q4-2006 and Q1-2007.
Why Was BCE Formed?
Black Cat Enterprises initially was
formed when, after a number of years as a truck driver, our founding president decided to take a different path in his career.
John had owned and opperated many diverse companies in the preceeding 20+ years, and because he really didn't want to work
for someone else, he decided to form this company.
An additional modivating factor was that, due to a disability
incured while serving his country in the mid 1980's, John had been having increased difficulties in holding a "standard" position
due to the increased pain he had been suffering the past few years. Thus, he formed this company to give him more "flexibility"
in his work schedule, so he could work when he was able to.
As a side note: John still
works hard, and long hours. He averages working between 80-100+ hours a week. The big difference is that besides the flexibility,
he actually enjoys working for himself.
What
is the significance of the name "The Black Cat Enterprises"?
The
name come from a mad love affair John had some years ago. John was in love with a woman, who in turn loved black cats (but
unfortunately, didn't love John). John assumed the pseudo-name "el Gato Negro", AKA: The Black Cat. This name (el Gato Negro)
became the pen name that John used while writing poetry: many of which were written for this unapproachable woman.
Even
after John parted ways from this woman, the name was so deeply engrained in John's psyche, that he just kept the persona alive
by using the name (or forms of) in many different areas of his life. So when this company was formed, it was natural to pay
homage to the woman he loved so much. Now John can love her again by loving his company...and now she (the company), loves
him back.
